Summer gloves are often no more that thin leather gloves without a lining and hardly any water resistance. It's best to consider having gloves made of leather as it's the safest (for example cycling gloves would be shredded in the event of a fall).

      Motorcycle fingerless gloves

  
There are two types, with and without fingers. (without might be comfy but you're not driving a car) If you ride in extreme sunny/hot conditions perforations in your gloves (for cooling) can give you a nasty sunburn.

      Motorcycle medium weight gloves

Medium weight is between summer and winter gloves and most riders have these. Some are lined, some aren't. These days they have special protection areas and are really comfortable. You can get them in all sorts and styles.

      Motorcycle winter gloves

    
Much thicker than medium weight gloves. Really made to keep your hands warm during colder weather. They will often have to handle rain too (just make sure they can, otherwise they are worthless).

      Motorcycle rain gloves

Often no more than a plastic covering to keep the rain out. I'm not such a fan of them. They can get slippery on the controls, get bulky and I don't like glove over glove. However rain gloves are often quite cheap and easy to carry along.
